Africa’s crypto users often have to navigate different exchanges, wallets and payment channels to complete a simple peer to peer transaction. HashLiquid is betting that connecting these separate systems could make P2P trading more accessible and structured across selected African markets.
The newly introduced marketplace combines supported centralised exchange accounts, Web3 wallets, local payment methods and merchant liquidity in a single platform, positioning itself as a CeDeFi alternative to traditional standalone P2P marketplaces.
Rather than operating as another closed order book, HashLiquid is designed to connect users and merchants across different entry points. Users can access the marketplace through a supported centralised exchange account or a self custodial Web3 wallet, while merchants can manage offers using liquidity connected to supported exchange accounts.
Tackling a fragmented P2P experience
For many crypto users, peer to peer trading involves moving between platforms to find the right price, payment method or available liquidity.
Merchants face a similar challenge. Operating across multiple marketplaces can mean splitting working capital, managing separate advertisements and maintaining different operational processes.
HashLiquid is attempting to address that fragmentation by creating a marketplace where these participants can meet through different account and wallet entry points.
Its first exchange connection supports Binance account access, where the feature is available to eligible users and merchants. The company says the platform remains independent and plans to support additional exchange and wallet connections over time.
The model could become particularly relevant in African markets, where payment preferences, currencies and access to financial infrastructure differ significantly from one country to another.
Making P2P transactions more accountable
Trust remains one of the biggest challenges in peer to peer crypto trading.
Users and merchants can encounter impersonation, false payment claims, off platform communication and disputes over transactions. HashLiquid is building its marketplace around a more structured transaction process designed to address some of these risks.
The platform incorporates authenticated account access, merchant checks, recorded order actions, transaction risk controls and a formal dispute resolution process.
Rather than claiming to eliminate fraud, HashLiquid’s approach is to keep key elements of the transaction, including communication, payment confirmation and crypto release, within a defined marketplace environment.
This creates a clearer record of what happened during a transaction and potentially gives both parties stronger evidence when disputes arise.
Bringing local payments into the equation
Another part of HashLiquid’s proposition is its focus on local payment methods.
Users can search for merchant offers based on their local currency, preferred payment method and transaction size. They can either browse offers directly through its P2P Zone or use HashAI Express, the platform’s guided matching feature.
For users in markets where access to international payment rails can be complicated, the ability to interact with merchants using familiar local payment methods could be an important part of the P2P experience.
For merchants, the platform is designed to provide access to demand from different ecosystem entry points without requiring them to operate entirely separate liquidity pools.
However, the company notes that trading volumes and merchant earnings are not guaranteed and will depend on factors including pricing, market demand, service quality and completed transactions.
A bigger bet on connected crypto infrastructure
HashLiquid’s launch comes as African crypto activity increasingly extends beyond exchanges into payments, remittances and everyday financial transactions.
The challenge for platforms operating in this space is no longer simply providing access to digital assets. It is building infrastructure that works across different currencies, payment systems, wallets and financial ecosystems.
HashLiquid is positioning its marketplace around that intersection.
By connecting exchange liquidity with Web3 wallets and local payment channels, the company is betting that P2P markets can become less fragmented and more interoperable.
For now, its focus remains on selected African markets, with eligible P2P merchants being invited to join its early marketplace.
The longer term test will be whether HashLiquid can attract enough merchants, liquidity and users to make its connected model more useful than the fragmented P2P experience it is trying to replace.
