LemFi is expanding beyond international money transfers into savings, credit and mobile connectivity, as the cross-border financial services company seeks to serve more of the financial needs of customers living across different countries.
The expansion introduces savings and credit products for customers in the United Kingdom, alongside eSIM services available in more than 100 destinations. The new offerings form part of a rebuilt LemFi app designed to bring multiple services into a single platform.
LemFi said more than two million customers use its platform to send money to over 30 countries, with monthly transaction volume exceeding $2 billion.
The company’s latest move marks a shift from its core remittance business towards a broader financial platform for migrants and diaspora communities who manage money, build credit and maintain connections across borders.
LemFi adds savings and credit in the UK
The new product range includes an Instant Access Savings Account in the UK, which LemFi says pays a promotional rate of 5% annual equivalent rate (AER) for the first six months after account opening. The rate then reverts to a stated tracker rate of 3.04% AER, linked to the Bank of England base rate.
Accounts can be opened with £1, and customers can withdraw funds without a penalty. LemFi says deposits are held by ClearBank and protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000 per eligible depositor.
The company has also introduced a revolving credit line for eligible UK customers through LemFi Credit and Pillar, the credit provider it acquired in 2025. The facility is available as a virtual card through Apple Pay and Google Pay and can be used for spending and sending money.
Eligible customers can also access their Equifax credit score through the app.
The addition of savings and credit addresses financial needs that extend beyond remittances. While international transfers allow customers to support family members and meet obligations in their home countries, savings and access to credit can also influence how they establish themselves financially in their destination markets.
However, the new savings and credit products are initially available in the UK, with LemFi indicating that other markets may follow.
eSIM services broaden the platform
LemFi is also introducing eSIM services across more than 100 destinations, allowing customers to purchase mobile data before travelling without changing physical SIM cards.
The addition takes the company beyond conventional financial services by addressing another practical need for people who travel or maintain connections across multiple countries.
Together, the new products broaden the range of services available through LemFi, potentially giving customers more reasons to use the app outside international transfer transactions.
The company has rebuilt the app’s architecture to accommodate multiple products across different markets within one account. According to LemFi, the redesign also makes its services easier to discover and creates a foundation for further product launches.
A broader strategy for cross-border finance
LemFi’s expansion is built around the financial challenges people can face when moving between countries. Credit histories may not transfer easily across borders, while access to familiar financial products can vary depending on where someone lives.
The company is positioning its platform to serve customers who earn, save and spend in one country while supporting family members or maintaining financial commitments in another.
“We started LemFi because sending money home was broken. What we learned is that the harder problem starts after the transfer,” said Ridwan Olalere, co-founder and chief executive of LemFi.
“Our customers are building careers and businesses in one country while supporting people in another, and the financial system treats them as if they can only exist in one place at a time. That is the wrong answer for people this ambitious, so we have rebuilt LemFi to work the way their lives do. Ambition travels. The infrastructure behind it should travel too.”
The product expansion coincides with the launch of LemFi’s new global brand platform, “Ambition has no passport”. The identity will be rolled out across the company’s app, website, marketing and social channels.
For LemFi, the next phase will involve extending its product offering beyond transfers while expanding into additional markets. The company’s ability to make the new services accessible across different jurisdictions, however, will depend on local regulations, product eligibility and the availability of suitable financial partners.
