CMC Markets has launched a new ChatGPT integration that allows UK CFD clients to access and explore supported account and market information through conversational prompts.
The integration connects supported CMC CFD accounts to ChatGPT, allowing clients to retrieve and summarise information including account balances, positions, pending orders, available products, pricing and historical market data.
The move gives clients an alternative way to interact with financial information, replacing the need to navigate multiple screens and datasets with conversational queries.
ChatGPT gets read only access
The initial integration is strictly read only.
Once a supported CMC account is connected, clients can ask ChatGPT questions about their account and available markets, with responses grounded in CMC’s account and market data.
For example, clients can ask for a summary of their account value, check current positions or pending orders, find available markets and retrieve supported pricing information.
The integration can also be used to explore historical market data, including requests for charts such as daily candlestick data for individual stocks over a specified period.
However, the AI connection does not give ChatGPT control over the account.
It cannot place, amend or cancel orders, open or close positions, transfer funds or make other changes to a client’s CMC account.
CMC pushes further into AI
The launch forms part of CMC Markets’ broader investment in artificial intelligence and cloud technology as financial services firms explore new ways for customers to interact with market information.
Rather than introducing AI as a trading execution tool, CMC’s initial implementation focuses on information access and account discovery.
Ross Gustafson, Head of Cloud at CMC Markets, said the integration brings positions, orders, pricing and historical market data into a single AI enabled experience.
“Connecting CMC’s account and market data with ChatGPT unlocks a new way for clients to access and explore financial information.”
He said the integration provides a foundation for developing more advanced client experiences as CMC continues investing in AI and cloud technology.
Laurence Booth, Global Head of Markets at CMC Markets, said changing expectations around how clients interact with financial services are creating opportunities for AI driven experiences.
“AI is changing how clients expect to interact with financial services.”
Booth said CMC’s focus is on combining its market expertise, data and technology with new ways for clients to access and understand financial information.
A new interface for financial data
The integration points to a broader shift in how financial platforms can present complex account and market information.
Instead of searching through separate account pages, order screens and market data sections, clients can use natural language to request specific information from supported CMC systems.
For now, the scope remains deliberately limited to information retrieval.
The separation between data access and trading activity means the integration does not currently allow ChatGPT to execute transactions or make account changes.
CMC said it plans to continue investing in AI as it develops its global multi asset offering, with the latest integration providing a foundation for future client experiences.
