Nigerian crypto to naira platform Dtunes has rebranded as Swapto, as the company moves beyond crypto cash outs and begins building towards a broader multi currency financial platform for individuals and businesses.
The company said the rebrand reflects a shift in its proposition from simply converting crypto into naira to giving users more control over how and when they move, swap and spend their money.
Swapto said its existing customers will not need to take any action, with accounts, balances and transaction histories automatically carried over to the new platform.
The company says it has more than 100,000 users and has processed over 500,000 swaps since launching in 2021.
From Crypto Cash Out to Money Management
Dtunes initially built its business around a straightforward use case: helping Nigerians convert crypto into naira.
The company now wants to build on that foundation as users increasingly manage money across crypto and traditional currencies.
Under the new Swapto platform, users can hold crypto and decide when to convert it into naira. Following a swap, they can also use the platform to pay for airtime, data and bills.
The company says user assets are held in custody by a digital asset custodian.
Founder and CEO Dotun Oyetade said the company’s goal is to make control over money a central part of the product rather than an additional feature.
The broader vision is to allow users to move between currencies and manage their money from a single platform, rather than relying on multiple services for different financial activities.
Why Dtunes Is Making the Move
The rebrand comes as Nigerians increasingly participate in digital asset and cross border financial activity.
The company cited Chainalysis data ranking Nigeria sixth in the 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index, while also pointing to an estimated $92.1 billion in on chain value received by the country between July 2024 and June 2025.
Swapto also cited Yellow Card’s 2025 Africa report, which estimated that Nigeria had about 25.9 million digital asset users in 2025.
The company argues that the growth of digital assets has created a wider need for users to manage money across different forms and currencies.
For some users, that can mean holding crypto before deciding when to convert it, while others may need to move between currencies for everyday expenses or business activities.
Swapto’s Bigger Ambition
The rebrand gives the company room to expand beyond its original crypto to naira use case.
Swapto says crypto remains at the centre of the platform for now, but its longer term ambition is to support broader money movement across currencies.
That could eventually include additional financial tools such as cards and everyday payment services, although the company has not provided a specific timeline for those products.
“We see Swapto becoming a place where people and businesses can move between currencies, manage their money and use it for the things they need,” Oyetade said.
The company is also positioning the rebrand as a response to feedback from its existing users, saying their experiences and requests have influenced the direction of the product.
For Swapto, the transition from Dtunes is therefore more than a change in name. It represents an attempt to evolve from a crypto conversion service into a broader platform for managing money across currencies.
The platform is currently available through the App Store and Google Play, according to the company.
