Mastercard has partnered with Busha to make cryptocurrency transfers simpler and more trusted for eligible users in Nigeria, introducing verified aliases that allow users to send and receive digital assets without relying on lengthy blockchain wallet addresses.
The partnership brings Mastercard Crypto Credential to Busha, making the Nigerian digital asset exchange one of the first platforms in Africa to enable the service for its users. Eligible Busha users will automatically receive a unique Crypto Credential alias that can be used across participating exchanges and wallets within the Mastercard ecosystem.
Moving beyond long wallet addresses
One of the challenges with sending digital assets is the complexity of blockchain wallet addresses.
A single mistake when copying or entering an address can result in a transaction being sent to the wrong destination or failing altogether. Mastercard Crypto Credential is designed to address part of this challenge by replacing lengthy wallet addresses with simple, verified aliases that users can share when receiving digital assets.
The system also verifies whether a recipient is able to receive the specific digital asset on the intended blockchain before a transaction is completed.
This adds another layer of verification to the transfer process and could make digital asset transactions more familiar to users accustomed to simpler payment experiences.
Busha users get automatic access
Under the partnership, eligible and verified Busha users in Nigeria do not need to complete additional registration to access the Crypto Credential service.
The credential is automatically issued as part of their Busha account, allowing users to transact with other verified users across participating exchanges and wallets.
This means the service is not limited to transfers between Busha users. As the wider Crypto Credential ecosystem expands, users on different supported platforms can interact using the verified alias system.
Gabriel Swanepoel, Division President, Africa at Mastercard, said:
“Digital asset transfers should be as intuitive and trusted as other forms of digital payments. Mastercard Crypto Credential gives users and institutions greater confidence that they are sending funds to verified endpoints, while making transactions simpler through easy-to-use aliases. By partnering with Busha, one of Nigeria’s leading digital asset platform, every verified Busha user is reachable simply using their email or phone number. Together, we are supporting responsible innovation and advancing secure, trusted digital asset infrastructure across Africa.”
Why this matters for Nigeria’s crypto market
Nigeria remains an important market for digital assets, with cryptocurrencies increasingly being used for investment, payments and cross border transactions.
As adoption grows, the infrastructure supporting these transactions needs to become easier to use while maintaining appropriate security and compliance standards.
The Mastercard and Busha partnership addresses one part of that challenge by introducing an identity and verification layer between users and blockchain addresses.
Rather than requiring users to deal exclusively with complex wallet information, the system allows verified participants to use a more familiar identifier while maintaining platform level verification.
For users, the objective is a simpler transfer experience. For digital asset platforms, the model also provides a framework for building greater trust around transactions.
Busha expands its digital asset infrastructure
For Busha, the partnership forms part of its broader push to make digital assets more practical for everyday users and businesses.
Michael Adeyeri, Co founder and CEO of Busha, said:
“At Busha, we are focused on making digital assets more practical, accessible and trusted for everyday users, and our collaboration with Mastercard helps us achieve this. By enabling eligible users to transact using verified aliases, Mastercard Crypto Credential can make the experience simpler and more intuitive, while reinforcing the security and compliance standards that users expect from Busha. We are proud to help bring this capability to Nigeria and support the responsible growth of the digital asset ecosystem across Africa.”
Busha operates across Nigeria and Kenya and provides access to crypto trading, traditional savings, crypto backed loans and stablecoin powered business infrastructure.
Its business offering also provides payment infrastructure for companies, fintechs and developers, including cross border payments, stablecoin treasury management, merchant payments and API integration.
The company is also among Nigeria’s SEC licensed digital asset platforms.
The bigger push for trusted digital assets
The introduction of Crypto Credential comes as digital assets continue to find use cases beyond trading and speculation.
Remittances, cross border commerce and digital payments are creating demand for infrastructure that can move value across markets while making transactions easier for users to understand and verify.
For Mastercard, the partnership with Busha extends its digital asset strategy into another major African market.
For Busha, it adds another layer of verification to its platform as it seeks to make digital assets more accessible to Nigerian users.
The immediate impact is straightforward: eligible Busha users can now use verified aliases instead of lengthy blockchain addresses when transacting within the supported Crypto Credential ecosystem.
The longer term opportunity is broader.
As more exchanges, wallets and financial platforms connect to the network, verified digital asset identities could help create a more connected and trusted environment for crypto transactions across Africa.Techmoni Africa tracks the Fintech, Web3, and Forex stories defining Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
